Bottle Description
This is a cellar found English wine bottle that belonged to Trinity College Oxford and is sealed T.C.C.R. for Trinity College Common Room. Trinity College was founded in 1555 and is now one of the most beautiful of the Oxford colleges. It is situated on Broad Street. There are 8 different recorded seals from Trinity College dating between about 1780 and 1840. This is probably the latest and is a 3 part moulded bottle. Most bottles supplied to Trinity College were manufactured by the company Westwood Moore and Rider of Stourbridge, near Birmingham though there is no evidence that this later bottle was also made by them. This bottle is different from most other English moulded bottles of this date in that it was not made by the Ricketts factory. The seal is in an unusually low position. For people interested in manufacturing techniques there appear to be 2 slightly different versions of this bottle, one with a very angular neck and one with a slightly more rounded neck. This bottle is the more angular version. In the early 19th century Dr Blakiston, who was the college president, was tired of undergraduates climbing into the college over the wall after the gates had been shut so he ordered that all the remaining wine bottles in the college cellar should be broken and the glass embedded on top of the wall. This glass has since been removed but seals of this type were originally in the wall.

In describing bottles I sell I try to be as accurate as possible. The bottle is in very good condition with full surface gloss and no chips or cracks.
